Adobe Connect Information

 

Adobe Connect allows you to have real-time, multi-point meetings and seminars that participants can access through a web browser. With Adobe Connect  you can share files, conduct polls, whiteboard, chat, and communicate using audio and video.

Request an Account

You will need an account with CALS IT to begin using Adobe Connect. Contact Carl Estes, haestes@vt.edu or the Ag Help Desk, aghelp@vt.edu and an account will be set up for you. An e-mail will be sent to you with your log in user name, password information and instructions for installing the Adobe Connect Add-In. Accounts are available for College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Virginia Cooperative Extension faculty and staff only. 
 

Logging in to Adobe Connect Server

Log in to your account http://connect.ag.vt.edu/ with the user name and password that you received from CALS IT.

Hardware and Software Requirements

  • Windows XP: An updated browser 
    • Internet Explorer 8.0 or higher
    • Mozilla Firefox 3.0 or higher
    • Adobe Flash Player 9 or higher
    • 450MHz Intel Pentium II or faster processor or equivalent
      512MB of RAM (1GB recommended)
  • Macintosh OS X 10.2 or higher: An updated browser:  
    • Safari 2.0 or higher
    • Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or higher
    • Adobe Flash Player 9 or higher
    • 500MHz PowerPC G3 or faster or 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo or faster processor
      128MB of RAM (512MB recommended)
  • Bandwidth: DSL/cable (wired connection recommended)
  • A headset/microphone for speaking and listening to audio if a webcam is not used.

Hardware Recommendations

There are a variety of analog and USB headsets or desktop microphones that will work for your Adobe Connect meetings, such as Altec Lansing, Logitech and Plantronics. Quality of audio and cost are directly related when purchasing headsets or microphones. We recommend that you purchase something in the $30 to $50 range. Please contact our staff if you have additional questions.  CALS IT recommends Logitech webcams for use with Connect Meeting. All of the webcams have built-in microphones.

Adobe® has produced a wealth of self-paced video tutorials, best practices articles, and tips for Adobe Connect. 


CALS IT has upgraded to Connect 8 which is quite a bit different than the previous versions. Especially in the way audio is managed. Review the Adobe training materials below to learn about the new features.

 

Adobe Connect Pro User Community Online Training Materials 

The Adobe Connect User Community is an excellent resource for online tutorials and user forums for Adobe Connect . There are literally hundreds of high quality training materials on virtually every aspect of the Adobe Connect software programs.
